Questions & Answers

Origin Story: In a couple sentences, how would you describe your path to becoming an investor?

Started with coding and automating my job at JP Morgan and been an early stage enterprise investor since 1996.

Investment Approach: What are the key factors you consider when evaluating a founding team?

We only invest in technical enterprise founders, look for product driven founders on a mission to solve a burning problem they've experienced, then look at what is unique technical insight and wedge to start a business, and what is opportunity to grow from product to company to big market.

What's your style and approach when it comes to working with founders post-investment? What are the characteristics of founders you've worked well with?

There is no one playbook and need to understanding the emotional aspect of a founder, need to know when to cheer, chill, or challenge to help founders build the best company they can.

If I'm coming to pitch to you or your firm, what's the one piece of advice you'd give me?

Get me fired up about what you are building — and why you are building it — in the first couple minutes, and make sure to be clear and succinct. We meet lots of founders during the day, so bringing the energy, passion and crystal clear story separates you from the others.

How would you describe your own personal mission and values, and how do they impact the way you invest?

We have a no jerks rule at boldstart and I value authenticity, honesty, and ethics and look for mission driven founders with same values.
